Summit XX:

The ART of Fine Arts Teaching

FAQ for Summit 20

Join us as we reimagine fine arts professional learning and discover the ART of Fine Arts Teaching during CEDFA Summit XX! This Summit will offer a one-of-a-kind chance to engage with colleagues from across the state for two days in active, hands-on, creative problem-solving sessions.

There are no spectators at this year’s event—as attendees, we will join forces with our colleagues in cross-disciplinary teams to tackle some of the toughest challenges we face in and out of our classrooms. We will imagine, ideate, and innovate at Summit XX.

To celebrate its twentieth year, CEDFA is transforming the traditional conference into an environment that is differentiated, dynamic, and responsive to our needs as professionals in fine arts education. At this year’s Summit, there will be no sit-and-get breakout sessions—there will be no death-by-PowerPoint. Instead, CEDFA is carving out time for us to put our creative energies together to solve real challenges.

We will engage through professional learning communities to tease out the issues that are standing in the way of our teaching and reaching all of our students. We will use the problem-solving approach of design thinking to guide our explorations. This collaborative, prototype-driven practice involves iterating through ideas, creating samples for how these ideas might work in the real world, testing them to gain feedback, and further refining solutions. In other words, design thinking leverages our natural abilities as creative thinkers. We will put our creativity to the test at Summit XX to design solutions to our challenges in the following topic areas:

  • Classroom Management
  • Social and Emotional Learning
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Technology Integration
  • Parent/Community Connection
  • Leadership in Arts Education
  • Inquiry-based & Project-based Learning
  • Professional Learning Communities
  • Inspiration, Wellness, and Renewal

CEDFA Summit XX welcomes voices from all fine arts educators who seek to improve as teachers. Attendees will hail from a wide range of discipline areas, diverse geographic regions, varied school environments, disparate grade levels, and possess differing amounts of professional experience. Summit XX will provide opportunities for both novices and experts. In fact, this Summit is an occasion unlike any other to collaborate, network, and grow.
