The Fine Arts Summit, hosted by the Center for Educator Development in Fine Arts (CEDFA), is the only major venue in Texas that brings together educators from each of the four fine arts content areas of art, dance, music, and theatre for professional development. It is anticipated that the revised Fine Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills will be approved by the State Board of Education during the 2013 spring semester. Consequently, the professional development sessions offered at the Fine Arts Summit XIV will pertain to the revised Fine Arts TEKS for Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre, grades K-12, which will be implemented in Texas schools during the 2014-2015 school year. Participants attending the Summit, then, can replicate the sessions for fine arts educators in their respective school districts.
In addition to the professional development sessions, the Fine Arts Summit will feature an informative and inspirational keynote speaker for the Opening Session, student performers for the Closing Session, administrator workshops, and other special activities and events. CEDFA will also host Pre-Summit sessions on Thursday morning, June 13 and Post-Summit sessions on Friday afternoon, June 14 at the Airport Hilton Hotel to provide participants with in-depth knowledge on specific topics. It should be noted that CEDFA was originally established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in 1998 to assist school districts with implementation of the current Fine Arts TEKS and to provide professional development for fine arts educators pertaining to the TEKS. In fact, Centers for Educator Development (CEDs) were established by TEA for all state-approved, TEKS-based academic disciplines. When funding ceased from TEA for CEDs, however, only one CED continued to exist and, actually, thrive – CEDFA, which has become a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization.
