Summits

Since 2000, Center for Educator Development in Fine Arts (CEDFA) has organized successful statewide fine arts summits that focus on teaching strategies aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The CEDFA Summits serve as the only venue for educators from all four fine arts disciplines to meet and discuss relevant issues. Education Service Centers (ESC) have replicated each statewide summit at the regional level.

The Fine Arts Summit is the only major venue in Texas that brings together educators from each of the four fine arts content areas of art, dance, music, and theatre. In 2009 CEDFA introduced a four-year plan to provide Summit participants with professional development training on assessment strategies in each of the four fine arts content areas, one strand of the Fine Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) per year:

  • Perception – 2009
  • Historical/Cultural Heritage – 2010
  • Response/Evaluation – 2011
  • Creative/Expression Performance – 2012

From 2005 through 2008 the Summit participants looked at integrating Fine Arts with other subject areas focusing on “Through the Arts Knowledge becomes Success”.
